Admittedly this isn't so much a tech article as it is a
footnote. In 1968 VW introduced the Autostick transmission in
both the Beetle and Karmann Ghia range. Along with this, 1968
Autostick models also got an IRS transmission while the manual
transmission-equipped models kept the Swing-Axle for one more
year. Both models got the IRS for 1969-on.

As a footnote to the footnote, the Type 3 got a fully automatic
transmission in 1968 - models equipped with this also got the
new IRS transmission while manual transmission-equipped Type 3's
				kept the Swing-Axle rear-end until 1969.
